University of Nigeria Nsukka to Get Solar Mini-Grid for Sustainable Power
The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has been named among the institutions to benefit from the $66.65 million USD (₦100 billion) National Public Sector Solarisation Initiative. This project, under the supervision of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), is designed to enhance power stability on campus while reducing the university’s reliance on diesel-powered electricity.
With the mini-grid in place, UNN will experience improved power availability, leading to better learning environments, research opportunities, and reduced operational costs. The project aligns with Nigeria’s national energy strategy, which prioritizes renewable solutions for public institutions.
Implementation is expected to commence once the 2025 budget is approved, with the government focusing on ensuring uninterrupted electricity for academic institutions across the country.
