Obafemi Awolowo University to Receive Solar Mini-Grid for Reliable Power Supply
The Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has been selected to receive a solar mini-grid as part of the $66.65 million USD (₦100 billion) National Public Sector Solarisation Initiative. The project, managed by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), is part of a broader plan to reduce dependence on diesel generators and provide cost-effective electricity to federal institutions.
The solar mini-grid at OAU will ensure a stable power supply, benefiting students, faculty, and research facilities. The initiative is a significant step toward modernizing energy infrastructure in Nigerian universities, enhancing both educational and research activities.
Once fully implemented, the project will contribute to the government’s long-term renewable energy transition goals, supporting clean energy adoption in public institutions.
