National Public Sector Solarisation Initiative to Deploy Solar Mini-Grid at University of Ibadan
As part of the $66.65 million USD (₦100 billion) National Public Sector Solarisation Initiative, the University of Ibadan (UI) has been selected for the deployment of a solar mini-grid to provide stable and cost-effective electricity. The project is designed to reduce reliance on diesel generators, lower electricity expenses, and support the university’s energy needs.
The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) will oversee implementation once the 2025 budget is approved. The initiative will modernize UI’s energy infrastructure, ensuring uninterrupted power for classrooms, laboratories, and student hostels.
This development aligns with the Nigerian government’s energy transition strategy, prioritizing renewable energy solutions in public institutions for a more sustainable future.
