Ahmadu Bello University to Benefit from Government Solar Power Initiative
Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) has been included in the Federal Government’s $66.65 million USD (₦100 billion) National Public Sector Solarisation Initiative, which will provide solar mini-grids to federal universities and teaching hospitals. The initiative is part of efforts to modernize Nigeria’s energy infrastructure, reducing diesel dependency and cutting electricity costs.
The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) will oversee the project’s execution once the 2025 budget is approved. The solar mini-grid at ABU will enhance power reliability, ensuring uninterrupted energy supply for classrooms, laboratories, student hostels, and research facilities.
The initiative underscores Nigeria’s commitment to clean energy and its goal of ensuring that public institutions have stable, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly power solutions.
