TotalEnergies seeks approval for 20 MW Tororo Solar Project
TotalEnergies has submitted plans for a 20 MW solar power project in Utro A village, Tororo district. This application, currently under review by the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA), is part of TotalEnergies’ broader initiative to increase Uganda’s renewable energy capacity. The project follows a 2022 agreement between TotalEnergies and the Ugandan government to establish solar facilities at six sites, each with a capacity of 20MW.
ERA has invited public feedback on the Tororo solar project proposal, with comments due by the end of January 2025. The project is expected to play a vital role in Uganda’s strategy to scale its solar energy production to 7,500MW by 2030, as outlined in the country’s Energy Transition Plan.
The solar project applications come two years after TotalEnergies signed its first solar agreement with the Ugandan government in November 2022, committing to develop 120 MW of solar power across six proposed sites: Iganga, Kumi, Kapeeka, Tororo, Pallisa, and Bukedea. Under this agreement, each site would host a 20MW solar project. In Iganga, the proposed solar plant will be located in Bukoyo village, while in Tororo, the site is in Utro A village.
ERA is now inviting public comments on TotalEnergies’ proposals for the Iganga and Tororo solar projects, with a deadline set for the end of January 2025.
