Serengeti Energy and Western Solar Power advance 32 MW Ilute Solar Project
Serengeti Energy and Western Solar Power have made significant progress on the 32-MWp Ilute solar project in Sesheke, located in Zambia’s Western Province. The milestone was marked by the signing of an implementation agreement, further solidifying the project’s development.
The achievement follows key agreements, including a grid connection agreement with ZESCO signed in December and a finalized power purchase agreement with Africa GreenCo, which has been secured as the power off-taker since the end of 2023.
The Ilute Solar Project represents an estimated investment of USD 37 million (EUR 35.8 million), including USD 8 million in concessional loans secured in October. This funding structure reflects the commitment to sustainable energy development in Zambia, with the project playing a pivotal role in enhancing the region's energy capacity.
“With key project documents now signed, Ilute Solar Ltd is projected to achieve financial close and start construction in the first half of 2025,” Serengeti Energy said in a statement.
The Ilute solar facility is expected to provide 25 MW of power, contributing to Zambia’s renewable energy goals and addressing local energy demand. This project underscores Serengeti Energy and Western Solar Power’s commitment to delivering clean and reliable energy in the region while fostering sustainable economic growth.
