Renergy Solar to develop 40 MW solar power plant
Danish renewable energy company Renergy Solar has confirmed its plans to contribute to Ghana’s renewable energy goals by developing a 40 MW solar power plant near the Dawa Industrial Zone. The project is designed to meet the rising demand for renewable energy in the region and strengthen Ghana’s energy transition efforts.
After delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Renergy Solar is now finalizing all regulatory and statutory requirements to begin construction at the Sege project site. The development will be carried out in two phases: the first 20 MW phase is set to begin construction in 2025, with the second 20 MW phase to follow.
The site’s proximity to high-voltage and distribution lines in Sege provides a logistical advantage, enabling efficient integration into the national grid. “We are very close to the high-voltage and distribution lines in Sege, making it easy to connect to the grid,” said Mads Vestergaard Sørensen, CEO of Renergy Solar.
Mr. Sørensen also noted that Renergy Solar has completed grid studies, environmental assessments, and technical evaluations for the project. The company is now focused on finalizing critical documentation, including the off-take agreement, to ensure a seamless start. Financial close is expected in the first half of 2025, with engineering activities slated to begin toward the end of the year once preparations are complete.
This project supports Ghana’s Energy Transition and Investment Plan (ETIP), which sets a clear pathway for achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2060 through the adoption of sustainable energy solutions. Ghana’s Ministry of Energy highlighted the importance of international investments like Renergy’s in supporting the country’s energy transition and diversifying its energy mix.
