Infinity Power and Pele Green Energy awarded 240 MW Highveld Solar Project in 7th REIPPPP
Infinity Power and Pele Green Energy have secured the 240 MW Highveld Solar project, located in Mpumalanga, as part of their successful bid in South Africa’s Seventh Round of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP). The project is 51% owned by Infinity Power and 49% owned by Pele Green Energy and is a key component of the partnership’s 1.28 GW portfolio awarded under this round.
Highveld Solar will provide clean energy to South Africa’s grid, significantly reducing reliance on fossil fuels. The plant is expected to avoid a substantial portion of the 3.2 million tons of CO2 emissions that the six awarded projects will collectively eliminate each year. It will also support the local economy, contributing to the creation of 6,500 jobs, both directly and indirectly, across all projects.
The project marks a significant milestone in Infinity Power’s commitment to achieving 10 GW of renewable capacity across Africa by 2030. Development and construction activities for Highveld Solar are set to begin following the signing of agreements with the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) and Eskom.
